The Houston Food Bank distributes 35 million pounds of food each year and and feeds 80,000 people each week. They organize 400 relief programs in 18 counties, including food pantry programs, shelters for the homeless, safe havens for the battered and abused, and nutrition sites for children and the elderly.

The Houston Food Bank also administers the following programs for area residents:

Kids Cafe:
With the help of volunteer chefs, at-risk kids enjoy healthy meals and snacks, learn about good nutrition & how to prepare healthy meals for their families, in a fun and safe after-school environment every weekday at Kids Cafe sites.

Operation Frontline:
The Houston Food Bank's registered dietitians and certified culinarians are joined by Houston-area chefs to bring nutrition education and meal preparation skills directly to those in need. Six-week courses are offered through the year at participating charities to teach low-income families how to eat healthy while stretching their limited food budgets.

Culinary Academy:
The Culinary Academy prepares low-income, underemployed adults for careers in the foodservice industry through a free, 12-week training program.

Food Fair:
Food fairs allow families to select from an abundance of fresh produce in a farmers market setting – a large, open atmosphere at hunger-relief partners’ sites. |
